SBA Communications actively manages its land interests, with 72% of its 39,749 towers (17,464 domestic, 22,285 international) situated on land they own or control with terms exceeding 20 years.

The company proactively addresses near-term lease expirations, with only 11.6% of sites having ground leases or property interests maturing in the next 10 years. This strategy is supported by investments like the $14.3 million spent in Q4 on land and lease extensions, and the $58 million allocated to land buyouts in 2024.

While a specific land buyout target for 2025 hasn't been set, it is included within the $1.255-$1.275 billion in discretionary capital expenditures, alongside potential acquisitions and new tower development. SBA also continues to pursue opportunistic domestic M&A.

At JW Tower & Telecom Consulting (www.jwttc.com), we specialize in guiding landlords through SBA's continued focus 2025 for cell tower lease amendments, cell tower easements, cell tower land acquisitions, and cell tower purchases. Securing land has always been a top priority for tower companies—a strategy we know well from our experience as an Asset Acquisitions Attorney on their team years ago.
